Carter Fangmeyer, Operations Manager

Flatwater Shakespeare Company is pleased to announce the hiring of Carter Fangmeyer as operations manager. With a strong history in Shakespearean theatre, education, grant management, and program administration, Carter is ready and able to contribute to Flatwater’s mission of education and entertainment.

A graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University with a degree in English and Theatre Arts, Carter recently returned from a study program in England in collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford upon Avon and is thrilled to utilize his organizational skills and enact his passion for education in collaboration with Flatwater and Shakespeare.

Stephen (Steve) Buhler, Co-Founder and Resident Scholar

Stephen served as Education Director of the Flatwater Shakespeare Company for our first two decades and is now our Resident Scholar. He is also the Aaron Douglas Professor of English at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has served as dramaturg for nearly all of Flatwater Shakespeare's productions and as humanities adviser for Flatwater Shakespeare's youth programs. He is the author of Shakespeare in the Cinema: Ocular Proof and was the 2015 recipient of the City of Lincoln Mayor's Arts Award for Artistic Achievement – Literary Arts.

Bob Hall, Co-Founder and Former Artistic Director

Bob Hall graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Master of Arts in Theatre in 1969 and for the next 24 years worked in New York City as a theatre director. He is also a published playwright, with his co-adaptation of Dracula running off-Broadway for two years. He was the Artistic Director of the Nebraska Repertory Theatre from 1987 to 1992, and relocated to Lincoln in 1997. He has been a comic book artist and writer since 1975, working for Marvel, DC, and Valiant. Most recently, he has shown his artwork at the Iron Tail and Eisentrager/Howard Galleries. He is founder and artistic director of the Flatwater Shakespeare Company. He is married to Paula Ray.


Scott Shomaker, Interim Executive Artistic Director


Scott Shomaker is a Lincoln, Nebraska native and proud alumnus of Nebraska

Wesleyan University, where he earned his undergraduate degree before completing his

Master of Fine Arts in Acting at Florida State University’s Asolo Conservatory for Actor

Training. He currently serves as the Interim Executive Artistic Director and is a member

of the Board of Directors for Flatwater Shakespeare Company. In addition, Scott

teaches as an Adjunct Instructor at Nebraska Wesleyan University, where he continues

to share his experience and passion for theatre with the next generation of artists. He

has been an active member of the Lincoln theatre community for over a decade,

performing with Flatwater Shakespeare since 2015 and collaborating with OmniArts,

Angels Theatre Company, and Lincoln Community Playhouse.

As Flatwater Shakespeare looks toward the future, Scott hopes to present a unified and

hopeful voice to the community—one that reflects the company’s enduring commitment

to artistic excellence, inclusion, and collaboration. He is dedicated to fostering stability

and growth within the organization while honoring Flatwater Shakespeare’s mission to

make classical theatre accessible and engaging for all.
