MISSION

MissionTo inspire and inform actors, artists, audiences, scholars, and students of the Great Plains and Midwest regional area through theater productions of the highest quality, based in the works of Shakespeare and enhanced by a creative educational wing.

The Flatwater Shakespeare Company is intent on expanding the audience for live theater. Younger audiences, non-traditional audiences, and under-represented groups can all be better connected with the dramatic arts. We feel that the production Shakespeare's plays and other classic works in engaging and intelligent ways can be crucial in broadening the base for all theater audiences in our region: after all, Shakespeare is the writer recently selected by the National Endowment for the Arts as the richest "common ground" for American communities.

In the coming years, at least one production each season will be designed to tour Nebraska, the Great Plains, and Midwest regions. At first, tours will consist of playing one or two towns per weekend. Later, as we grow enough to sustain a small full-time company, we expect to do more extensive touring, including performances, workshops and lecture presentations in cities and towns of most sizes. We have also started working with the public school systems and private schools in Nebraska to help in fulfillment of our educational goals.
